School libraries are wonderful places to read, inquire, explore, research, think and grow...
The ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ is proud of our school libraries and the highly skilled, well trained teacher librarians available to support learners in developing 21st Century learning skills. We provide library programming in every elementary and secondary school in the district. Students share their love of reading while exploring diverse library collections. Teacher librarians work with students to find resources that nurture their interests, spark new learning, engage them as readers and create a life-long love of reading and learning. To spend even a few minutes in a bustling school library is to see the magic of reading come to life as the students connect with the world around them.
In our school libraries, students develop contemporary skills such as strong communication, collaboration and critical thinking skills that strengthens their futures. They work with one another and their teachers to have deep discussions about literature and how connections to their experiences and their aspirations. Teacher librarians update their collections, staying connected to students and making the school library a place for endless exploration.
Students also become digital citizens through access to the most up-to-date, Canadian-based, online learning data-bases, encyclopedias and reading platforms. They can use thousands of online resources to explore our community, our country and the world. The ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ knows the value of building a culture of inquiry within their schools with digital resources as well as books, and the school library allows the students to build these skills in with limitless access to information. Within the library walls, we provide the keys to unlock endless learning possibilities.
Students can share their love of reading with their families, as their library resources are available to bring home. Families can see the books their children are reading and read along with them. We also provide home access to their online learning platforms, so students and families can connect digitally, using databases that are informative and engaging.
