At the 黑马磁力, we understand the importance of partnering with our communities to help support First Nations, M茅tis, and Inuit students as well as bring positive awareness about Indigenous Peoples to all students and staff.
Meetings
The Indigenous Education Advisory Council meets five times per year. We will share meeting dates with Indigenous families in the GECDSB through the Open Minds Newsletter.
Membership
To join the Indigenous Education Advisory Council or attend meetings, you must belong to one of the following membership groups:
- First Nations, Metis and Inuit parent or guardian from the GECDSB
- First Nations, Metis and Inuit community representative from their respective Nations
- Board staff who are aligned with Indigenous education
- Trustee representative

Mandate
Our mandate is to offer parent and community input on the Board Action Plan for Indigenous Education, in addition to providing an advocacy role for parents and the community. This may also include:
- Advising and assisting with the implementation of the GECDSB Indigenous Education Protocol
- Advising and assisting with the implementation of the GECDSB Action Plan for Indigenous Education
- Identifying community issues that impact education
- Responding to other initiatives as they arise

The Council follows these principles:
- Commit to sharing our gifts to support the Indigenous Education Advisory Council mandate
- Respond in a timely manner to communication
- Respond to others in a good way
- Address all concerns directly to the Committee in a good way
- Commit to engage on a regular basis
- Conclude all meetings with a final opportunity for all to share
